Kids Cooking for Life
Kids Cooking For Life (KCL) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching nutrition and fostering lifelong healthy eating habits through hands-on cooking classes. By guiding students through recipe reading, measuring, chopping, and cooking, we empower them to create wholesome meals. We focus on serving children from low-income communities and those with special needs across six counties in the Bay Area. Our mission is to instill an understanding of nutrition and healthy eating as essential components of lifelong well-being.
Role Description
This is a part-time PAID, on-site role based in Marin, Sonoma & Napa counties as a Youth Nutrition and Cooking Instructor. The instructor will conduct hands-on cooking classes, teaching children essential culinary techniques, food preparation, and the principles of healthy nutrition. Responsibilities will include planning lessons, demonstrating cooking skills, fostering a positive learning environment, and educating students on nutrition and healthy eating practices. The role will also involve collaborating with team members to adapt lessons for diverse learning needs and maintaining a fun, engaging atmosphere.
Qualifications
- Interest in Cooking, Food Preparation, and Culinary Skills
- Some knowledge of Nutrition Education
- Passion for teaching and working with children, including those from diverse backgrounds and special needs communities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage a dynamic classroom environment while fostering a positive, inclusive atmosphere
- Previous experience in teaching or working in community-based education is a plus, but not a requirement
- Current Food Handler Certification or willingness to obtain one
